Full Facility Signage Program for Buckles-Smith — San Jose & San Leandro

Most sign projects are one location, one sign, one problem to solve. Buckles-Smith, an industrial automation and electrical supply distributor, needed something bigger: a consistent signage package across two facilities — San Jose and San Leandro — covering everything from the monument sign out front to the parking regulations painted on the back wall.

The Project

Buckles-Smith operates as a distribution and industrial supply company, which means their signage has to work for a few different audiences at once: customers picking up orders, delivery trucks navigating the lot, visitors finding the right entrance, and staff moving between buildings. That’s a different brief than a retail storefront — it’s about making a working facility easy to navigate, not just brand recognition.

The signage package mixed painted acrylic and exterior-grade foam letters depending on the application, non-illuminated throughout, chosen for durability and cost-efficiency on a multi-building industrial site rather than for backlit visibility.

San Jose

The San Jose location got the fullest signage package: a concrete monument sign at the building’s street number, exterior building signage with the Buckles-Smith logo, frosted glass window graphics for the interior stairwell landing, door vinyl at the Assembly Services entrance listing hours and the support line, a visitor parking post sign, and a run of “Truck Parking Only” regulatory signs along the loading area.

Each piece does a specific job. The monument sign and building signage handle brand identification from the street. The door vinyl answers the first question a visitor has — is this the right door, and when are you open — before they even try the handle. The frosted glass graphics carry the brand into the interior without needing a full mural. And the parking and truck signage keep a working lot organized, which matters more at a distribution facility than at most retail sites.

San Leandro

The San Leandro location needed a lighter touch: a “Customer Parking” dimensional letter sign on the building exterior, and an exterior logo panel installed above the entrance to match the San Jose branding.

Keeping the same logo treatment and letter style across both sites, even at different scopes, is what makes a two-location signage program read as one company rather than two separate storefronts that happen to share a name.

What Made This One Work

Matching material logic across a multi-building site. Painted acrylic and exterior-grade foam aren’t flashy, but they’re the right call for an industrial facility that needs signage to hold up outdoors without the added cost and maintenance of illumination.

Signage that solves operational problems, not just branding. Truck parking signs, visitor parking posts, and door vinyl with hours and a support number aren’t glamorous, but they’re exactly what a distribution facility needs to run smoothly. A good facility signage program is as much about wayfinding and operations as it is about the logo out front.

Consistency across locations. Same logo treatment, same letter style, same install standard at both sites — so a customer visiting either location gets the same read on the business.

If your business operates across more than one location and needs signage that’s consistent, functional, and built to handle an industrial or distribution environment, that’s exactly the kind of project we like taking on.
