Window graphics are one of the most overlooked upgrades in a San Jose office buildout. They’re faster to install than paint, cheaper than architectural glass treatments, and reversible — which matters when you’re in a leased space. Done right, they handle privacy, branding, and aesthetics in one installation.
Here’s what’s actually available, what each option costs, and which ones make sense for different situations.
Frosted Window Film
Frosted film is the most common window graphic application in Silicon Valley offices. It’s applied directly to glass to create a translucent effect — light passes through, but visibility is reduced. Used on conference room glass, private office partitions, and storefront windows where privacy is needed without blocking light.
Two main types:
Cast vinyl frosted film is the standard. Applied in sections to glass, with a matte frosted appearance that mimics etched glass. Can be cut into patterns, your company logo, geometric shapes, or used as a solid band at eye level (the most common privacy configuration in open-plan offices).
Frosted manifestation bands are required by building codes in many commercial spaces where glass partitions create a walking hazard. These are the horizontal bands you see at mid-height on glass walls — they’re often a code requirement, not just an aesthetic choice. We can make them look intentional rather than like an afterthought.
Cost range: $4–$9 per square foot installed, depending on coverage and cut complexity. A standard conference room with 3 glass walls typically runs $300–$700.
Lifespan: 5–7 years indoors before the adhesive begins to degrade or the film shows wear. Exterior applications have a shorter lifespan.
Full-Color Window Graphics
Printed window graphics — your logo, a brand image, a campaign visual — are printed on clear or white vinyl and applied to the interior or exterior of glass. Used heavily on storefront windows, lobby glass, and ground-floor windows facing the street.
Interior application (print facing out through the glass) is simpler and lasts longer than exterior. Exterior application has better visual impact from the street but degrades faster due to UV exposure and weather.
Cost range: $6–$14 per square foot installed, depending on print complexity and application type. A full storefront window panel at 6’ x 4’ typically runs $400–$900.
Lifespan: 3–5 years exterior, 5–8 years interior with quality UV-stable vinyl.
Vinyl Lettering and Logo Application
Cut vinyl lettering is the most cost-effective window graphic option — individual letters or a logo shape cut from vinyl film and applied directly to glass without a background panel. Common for storefront hours, address numbers, suite identifiers, and simple logo applications.
No printing required, so lead time is fast — typically 2–5 business days. Works on interior or exterior glass.
Cost range: $2–$6 per square foot, or often quoted per job based on letter count and complexity. A standard hours-of-operation application for a storefront door typically runs $80–$200.
Lifespan: 4–7 years outdoors with quality cast vinyl. Interior applications last significantly longer.
Perforated Window Vinyl (One-Way Vision)
Perforated vinyl has small holes that allow outward visibility from inside while appearing as a solid printed image from outside. Used on storefront windows where you want a strong exterior visual but don’t want to block light or sightlines for people inside.
Not ideal for every application — the perforations create a visible dot pattern when viewed close up, and the one-way visibility works best in bright outdoor light. Works well for retail storefronts, restaurant windows, and ground-floor office windows facing heavy foot traffic.
Cost range: $8–$15 per square foot installed.
Which Option Fits Your Situation
Tech office conference rooms: Frosted film, usually. Clean, professional, and addresses the privacy requirement without looking overdone. Add a cut-vinyl logo or pattern for brand reinforcement.
Retail storefront: Full-color window graphic or perforated vinyl for the primary window, cut vinyl for hours and contact information on the door.
Corporate lobby glass: Frosted film with a cut-vinyl or printed logo. The combination of privacy treatment and brand mark is the standard configuration for Silicon Valley office lobbies.
Restaurant or café: Perforated window vinyl on street-facing windows for maximum visual impact. Cut vinyl for operational information.
Medical or dental office: Frosted manifestation bands on waiting room glass plus cut vinyl for suite identification. ADA-compliant tactile signage is separate but often ordered at the same time.
Installation and Removal
All vinyl window graphics are removable — this matters in a leased space. A professional removal leaves the glass clean without adhesive residue if the film hasn’t been there too long and was installed with quality materials. Cheaper films and extended installation periods can make removal more difficult.
We install all window graphics in-house. No subcontractors, no scheduling a separate installer. Most standard office window graphic jobs complete in a half-day.
